BRAD BRYANT TAKES TWO-SHOT LEAD

AT AT&T CHAMPIONS CLASSIC

12 Players Within Three Shots of the Leader

SANTA CLARITA, Calif. – Brad Bryant rode a streak of six straight one-putts over the final six holes en route to a 31 on the back nine to take a two-shot lead after 36 holes of the AT&T Champions Classic at Valencia Country Club.

Bryant started the day with an even par 36 on the front nine, with two birdies and two bogeys.  He made par on holes 10-12 before starting his streak.  He had a 3 penciled on his scorecard for holes 13-17, which included a birdie on 13, par on 14, eagle on 15, par on 16 and a birdie on 17.  He closed out his round of 67 with a birdie on the par 5 18th after nearly holing his wedge shot from 65 yards. 

A day that featured bright sunshine in the mid-morning that turned cloudy in the afternoon with intermittent rain Mark McNulty equaled Bryant for the low round, posting a 67 earlier in the day.  He is part of a group of seven players three shots back at 4-under-par 140.

Sandwiched in between the 4-under-par scores and Bryant are Jay Haas, Bernhard Langer, R.W. Eaks, Tom Jenkins and Loren Roberts, the only player among this group who did not shoot a 68 today, coming in with a 2-under-par 70.  That fivesome of players stand at 139 through 36 holes.

“I played really well today tee to green,” said Bryant, whose brother Bart is currently among a group of five players leading the Arnold Palmer Invitational at Bay Hill in Orlando.  “I came here thinking I could not putt these greens, but I’ve made some putts here now so it’s given me some confidence.  We’ll be pretty focused tomorrow.”

This is the first time Bryant, a four-time winner on this tour, has ever held the 36-hole lead in a Champions Tour event.  He has two second place finishes this year – the Allianz Championship and The ACE Group Classic.

Sunday’s final round in the $1.6 million AT&T Champions Classic starts at 10:20 a.m.  Tickets for the Champions Tour event are on sale for $15 at the event entry to Valencia Country Club off of Tourney Road.
