MARK O’MEARA AND SCOTT HOCH COMMIT TO AT&T CHAMPIONS CLASSIC AT VALENCIA COUNTRY CLUB MARCH 12-18
WHO: Mark O’Meara
· Two-time Major Champion winner
· Won the 1998 Masters Tournament and 1998 British Open
· 1998 PGA Tour Player of the Year, also named Player of the Year by the PGA of America and Golf Writers Association of America
· Recorded 16 PGA Tour victories in a 25-year career
· Won the U.S. Amateur and the California State Amateur in 1979
· Became eligible for the Champions Tour this year when he turned 50 on January 13
· Has made two starts on the Champions Tour this season
· Debut came at the Outback Steakhouse Pro-Am (Feb. 16-18) where he finished tied for 38th
· Finished tied for 5th at The ACE Group Classic (Feb. 23-25)
· Local Connection – Grew up in Mission Viejo in south Orange County; was an All-American golfer at Long Beach State, graduating in 1980 with a degree in marketing; teamed with PGA Tour Design Services to build the TPC Valencia (CA), which opened in 2003
WHO: Scott Hoch
· Joined the Champions Tour in 2006
· Owns 11 PGA Tour victories, including the Ford Championship at Doral in 2003
· One of the most consistent players on the PGA Tour, finishing among the Top 40 on the money list every year between 1982-2002, except in 1992 when he had shoulder surgery
· Spent majority of last year rehabbing a hand injury following surgery
· Made his Champions Tour debut in September of 2006 at the Constellation Energy Classic, finishing tied for 27
· Followed that up two weeks later, finishing tied for 8th at the SAS Championship
· Has played in the last three Champions Tour events: finished T9 at Allianz Championship (Feb. 9-11), T7 at Outback Steakhouse Pro-Am (Feb. 161-8) and T11 at The ACE Group Classic (Feb. 23-25)
O’Meara and Hoch will join other notable Champions Tour stars at Valencia Country Club March 12-18, including defending Champion Tom Kite, Ben Crenshaw, Raymond Floyd, Jay Haas, Hale Irwin, Peter Jacobsen, Gil Morgan, Loren Roberts and Fuzzy Zoeller to name a few.
